Highland Gathering Jakarta - Tossing the Caber

[EN] As yesterday I presented photos of runners who participated in the Standard Chartered Half-Marathon Indonesia 2011, I’m going to bring up event photos for the rest of the week, while I make the Half-Marathon post sticky to give people the opportunity to download their pictures.

Here in this post, I’m bringing up a photo from this year’s Highland Gathering Jakarta that took place in May in Karawaci, Jakarta. The Highland Gathering athlete was actually doing some warm-ups tossing a caber before the real event.

[ID] Karena kemarin saya memperlihatkan foto-foto dari pelari-pelari yang berpartisipasi di Standard Chartered Half-Marathon Indonesia 2011, saya akan memperlihatkan foto-foto event untuk minggu ini, dimana saya akan membuat post Half-Marathon kemarin sticky, hal itu akan memberi kesempatan bagi yang akan mengunduh foto-fotonya.

Dipost yang sekarang, saya memperlihatkan foto dari Highland Gathering Jakarta ditahun ini yang diselenggarakan dibulan Mei di Karawaci, Jakarta. Olahragawan Highland Gathering yang difoto sedang melakukan warm-up untuk ‘tossing the caber’ sebelum pelaksanaan dari perlombaannya.

Standard Chartered Half-Marathon Indonesia 2011

Run For A Reason

[EN] Standard Chartered Bank is organizing a half-marathon (21K) and a 10K run events in Ragunan, Jakarta on Sunday, 30th October 2011 with the theme: Run For A Reason. It’s a charity run to support Seeing is Believing, a global initiative to help tackle avoidable blindness. The initiative is a collaboration between Standard Chartered Bank and International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Don’t Wake A Sleeping Tiger

Taman Safari, Cisarua - Near Jakarta

[EN] From Onrust and Kelor, let’s go back to land. While I don’t have fresh photos of places in Jakarta (or any other place), let’s look at some of my old photos of places I have covered in other posts in this blog. 

There is an Indonesian saying: “Don’t Wake a Sleeping Tiger” (or it might be an Asian phrase). The saying can be interpreted as: When things are calm and peaceful, do not upset the big guy.

I took this photo of a sleeping tiger in my visit to Taman Safari (the Safari Park) in Cisarua. It’s about one hour from Jakarta, but in week-ends as there are many people going to Puncak for recreations, it may take two to two and a half hours.

[ID] Sesudah Onrust dan Kelor, mari kita kembali ke Jakarta. Karena saya sedang tidak mempunyai foto-foto yang baru dari tempat-tempat di Jakarta, mari kita lihat foto-foto dari tempat-tempat yang pernah saya tuliskan dipost-post lain blog ini.

Ada pepatah dalam bahasa Indonesia: “Jangan bangunkan harimau tidur”. Pepatah tersebut dapat dimaknakan: bila keadaan tenang tenteram, jangan buat orang yang besar/berpengaruh marah.

Saya mengambil foto harimau tidur ini di Taman Safari, Cisarua. Letaknya sekitar 1 jam dari Jakarta, tetapi diakhir pekan, dikarenakan banyak orang pergi ke Puncak untuk rekreasi, perjalanan dapat memakan waktu dua sampai dua setengah jam.

Fort Martello

Pulau Seribu - Kelor | Fort Martello

[EN] Now I know the name of the fort on Pulau Kelor: Martello. There were three of Forts Martello, the other two were on Pulau Bidadari and Pulau Onrust. The remains on Pulau Bidadari is only half of the original structure. The eruption of Krakatau created a tidal wave that destroyed half of the fort in Pulau Bidadari. The one on Pulau Onrust is completely gone. Unfortunately, it was destroyed as it was looted in 1960s.

[ID] Sekarang saya tahu nama benteng di Pulau Kelor: Martello. Ada tiga benteng Martello, yang dua lagi berada di Pulau Bidadari dan Pulau Onrust. Puing-puing di Pulau Bidadari hanya tinggal setengah dari aslinya. Diwaktu Krakatau meletus, gelombang air pasang menghancurkan separuh dari benteng yang berada di Pulau Bidadari. Benteng yang ada di Pulau Onrust sudah hancur sepenuhnya. Sayang sekali, pada tahun 1960-an, benteng tersebut hancur karena dijarah.
