Bogor

View from Santika, Bogor - Gunung Pangrango

The view from my room window when we were staying at Santika, Bogor. I like the hotel. The breakfast was very good. The room was quite good. One downside is the lifts are small.

Bogor Restaurant - Kabayan

[EN] We had a family lunch in Bogor this afternoon. Bogor is a small town near Jakarta. From my place in South Jakarta, it is around 55 km. This morning, we left at 10.30 am and reached the restaurant in Bogor at 12.10 pm. That’s 1 hour 40 minutes. It was a longer trip because at the Jagorawi Toll Road, it was packed with cars before the ticket gate at Cibubur.

Despite the long trip, it was a good lunch, though. The food at Kabayan was quite good. It was Sundanese cuisine (Western Java). The location of restaurant was practically at the end of the main Bogor toll road exit.

Recommended food: Pepes mercon (fish cooked in bamboo), Gurame bakar sambal mangga nanas (gurame fish barbecued with chilly mixed with mango and pineapple).

Recommended drink: Lidah buaya (aloe vera; note that the literal meaning of lidah buaya is crocodile tounge, but that’s the Indonesian word for aloe vera).

Meskipun perjalanan memakan waktu lama, makan siangnya lumayan enak.

Rekomendasi minuman: Lidah buaya.

Kebun Raya Bogor | Bogor Botanical Garden | Giant Lily Pads

[EN] This is a better view of the giant lily pads. No rubbish on the pads on the farther part of the pond. The lawn is not reachable by visitors of the botanical garden. I wonder if anyone like honorary guests, diplomats or foreign emissaries do actually step on that part of the lawn at any one time. I also wonder if the President or his wife or his children ever wander to that part of the lawn.

That was the first time that I have ever been to Bogor Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bogor). It was a Monday, a working day, so it was so peaceful and quiet. It was just right for me.

C.G.K. Reinwardt

Kebun Raya Bogor | Bogor Botanical Garden | CGK Reinwardt

[EN] Kebun Raya Bogor or the Bogor Botanical Garden was first established by C.G.K. Reinwardt. According to the writing on the rock (oops, I don’t know the proper term for the rock, do you call it a monument?), he was a German botanist. According to Wikipedia, he was a Prussian born Dutch botanist. I suppose as Prussia was a German kingdom, that’s why Reinwardt could also be thought of as a German. Well, I’m glad he founded the botanical garden, otherwise we may not have one near Jakarta.

[ID] Kebun Raya Bogor pertama kali didirikan oleh C.G.K. Reiwardt.

Giant Lily Pads

[EN] Kebun Raya Bogor or the Bogor Botanical Garden has large lily pads in their pools. Unfortunately, inconsiderate ignorant people throw litter on them. I think the botanical garden management should put up notices that littering will be fined and start fining people who litter. [ID] Kebun Raya Bogor memiliki teratai raksasa di kolam-kolamnya.
