MH Thamrin Statue - Jakarta

[EN] The statue of M.H. Thamrin was officially opened by Mr. Fauzi Bowo, the Governor of Jakarta this morning. The statue is located at one of the sides of the Jl. M.H. Thamrin and Jl. Merdeka Selatan round-about, near the Monas area. The opening ceremony was enlightened by a poet reading a poem about Jakarta, and during the poem reading, he was accompanied with the Statue Dance, a dance performed by a local professional dance company. The dancers’ whole bodies were covered with bronze colored paint. It was a great performance by the local artists. Now, M.H. Thamrin, the local hero, is not only commemorated by having his name for Jakarta’s main street, but also with the 2 metre high statue at the end of the main road.

Mohammad Husni Thamrin was born in Jakarta, at an area known as Sawah Besar. Coincidentally, Jakarta’s Governor, Mr. Fauzi Bowo was also born in the area. Mr. Thamrin was born on 16th February 1894, and died at the age of 46, on 11th January 1941. He was a member of the Jakarta City Council in 1919 and later became the deputy mayor. In 1927, he was elected to the Volksraad (People’s Council in the Dutch era). He then formed the National Fraction that united ten groups of Indonesian nationalists under one banner. In 1935, he was a founding member of Partai Indonesia Raya (Parindra – Great Indonesia Party). He and Dr. Soetomo, believed that independence could be achieved through cooperation with the Dutch colonial government. M.H. Thamrin was a national hero who greatly contributed to the independence of Indonesia.

[ID] Patung M.H. Thamrin tadi pagi diresmikan oleh Bpk. Fauzi Bowo, Gubernur Jakarta. Patung tersebut berlokasi dipinggir dari bundaran Jl. M.H.

Changing Back the Theme

I’m changing back to the previous theme I had. Thesis is still good in terms of managing SEO. It gives more flexibility than the theme I just tried in the last one month. The theme that I decided not to use is good for photography blog, but my personal preference is still to use Thesis.
