[EN] Let’s take a break from my series on Onrust.

I’m taking you back to the Photomarathon. I’d like to close the series with the events that took place after the band until the end.

After the hilarious entertainment by the band, Kristupa Saragih, a famous Indonesian photographer came onto the stage. He was bringing us the photo clinic, and most of the photographers sat on the lawn in front of the stage listening to him as he went over his works shown on the large screen by the stage. He first went through some fundamentals on how to take great pictures, then he showed us some of his more advanced techniques with some of his works as example.

Next, the moment that many of the photographers were waiting for. The announcement of winners. There were around 40 photographs that won awards, but one that was considered the best. The person with the best photo won the main prize, which was a trip to Tasmania to attend a photo clinic. The man won by taking a photograph of part of a dry leaf with his iPad, then put his iPad next to the remaining part of the leaf, forming a full leaf, and took a photo with his camera of the combined image (half from the image of the leaf on the iPad, the other half is the second portion of the real leaf). Unfortunately, I cannot find the winning photo on the web.

Last performance was a bonus for us, as we were given a chance to see the Multimedia Show in Fantastique. In the photo, it is shown the green giant (‘Buto Ijo’) to appear in the back of the stage. The image was produced by a combination of laser lights shot at sprays of water giving the 3D appearance of the giant. It was a wonderful entertaining half hour show. There was some fireworks near the end of the show and I managed to take my first photograph of fireworks.

The photomarathon was one full day of enjoyable photography related activities.

I’ll continue with Onrust series in my next posts.

Photomarathon 2011, Jakarta | Ecopark, Ancol | Who Let The Dogs Out?

[EN] In a recent post, I wrote that the best part of the Photomarathon was the band. After the traditional dance performance, right in the hot afternoon, the band came out and cheered us up again. They were singing Baha Men’s “Who Let The Dogs Out?” and were encouraging the audience to “bark” along. It was another great performance by the band (and I still don’t know the name of the group).

Mereka membawakan lagu Baha Men “Who Let The Dogs Out?” dan membuat penonton untuk ikut berpartisipasi dengan menggonggong.

When the party was nice, the party was jumpin’ (Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo)
And everybody havin’ a ball (Hah, ho, Yippie Yi Yo)
I tell the fellas “start the name callin’” (Yippie Yi Yo)
And the girls report to the call
The poor dog show down
Who let the dogs out (woof, woof, woof, woof)

[and on it goes....]

Another Traditional Dance

14 October 2011

Post image for Another Traditional Dance

[EN] Enough with the models. Too much of them would reduce our sense to value our traditional culture. So the next performance was another traditional dance. As long as the dance was energetic, it would go with the spirit of the event.

Hot Model

[EN] What I mean to say is she is feeling hot sitting on a cab at 1pm in a hot sizzling sunny afternoon. She was still smiling even though, I’m pretty sure, she was feeling very uncomfortable, or even feeling a bit burnt. The photographers seemed a bit ignorant of the fact. I kind of [...]

It’s good to see the real person. After a few moments, she returned to her serious expression as the many photographers surrounding her [...]

Dance Performance

[EN] At Photomarathon 2011 in Jakarta, after they showed the live band, they brought in the dancers. The costumes were mixed between traditional and contemporary, but clearly Indonesian. The music was also distinctly Indonesian, but with contemporary touch, so it was so lively. [ID] Di Photomarathon 2011 di Jakarta, setelah live band, keluarlah penari-penari. Kostum-kostum [...]

Beautiful, Harmoniously Chic – Asri

Thumbnail image for Beautiful, Harmoniously Chic – Asri

[EN] “Asri” was the second theme in the second competition in Photomarathon 2011. I didn’t know the English equivalent for “Asri”, so I looked it up in EUdict.com, and it read “Beautiful, Harmoniously Chic”. I submitted the photograph of the pigeons on the pigeon house … and again it didn’t win any recognition. Well, no [...]
