Museum Fatahillah

Kota Tua - Obituary: Aurora Tambunan

[EN] I read in this morning’s Koran Tempo, the person who started the idea of Kota Tua to become a tourist destination past away yesterday. Aurora Tambunan came up with the idea in 2002 when she was assigned as the Head of Tourism for the Local Government of Jakarta. We appreciate her invaluable contributions to the community of Jakarta. Our condolences to her family. May all God’s blessings descend upon her and the family she left behind.

Kota Tua is Jakarta’s old town. It is known with its old colonial Dutch buildings and its museums, one of which is Museum Fatahillah. The Fatahillah Square being the most central place in the old town.

I also learnt from Jakarta Post, dated 9th July 2011, that Museum Fatahillah is closed for conservation work until 2014. Read the article here.

Baca artikelnya disini.

[EN] View of the Fatahillah Square from inside Museum Fatahillah, Kota Tua (Old Town), Jakarta. The square is busy with people enjoying their Sunday at a historic site in Jakarta. It’s great to have a square with historic value. Even though many of the people are there not for the historic value, but at least some of them should learn something from the historical site.
