Onrust and Kelor Islands are part of the Thousand Islands, islands that are situated just off the coast of Jakarta. The two islands are away from the pollution and hustle bustle of the metropolitan. It’s like being in a different world, yet it is in fact still close to Jakarta.
With Onrust, I like how the trees are different to the trees that I normally see in Jakarta. There is the ruins of the old hospital on the island. The only building that is intact is the doctor’s house.
Kelor, strangely, has a small population of cats. I don’t know how they got there, possibly because some irresponsible people left them there. Unfortunately, Kelor will become extinct in possibly less than a century. The water level keeps rising and will submerge the small island in not so distant future. We will be losing this valuable a historical site.

[EN] As our boat moved away from Pulau Onrust on the way to Pulau Kelor, I saw the pillar shaped rocks jutting out of the water by the shore of Onrust. I think they were made to protect the island from incoming invading ships. They would make the large ships impossible to bank close the shore as the rocks would shatter the wooden structure of a ship. In the old days of the colonizing era, such sea defense was crucial to the island defenders.

[ID] Diwaktu perahu kami bergerak dari Pulau Onrust ke Pulau Kelor, saya melihat batu-batu berbentuk pilar yang keluar dari air ditepi pantai Onrust. Menurut saya batu-batu itu dibuat untuk mempertahankan pulau Onrust dari kapal-kapal penyerang. Dengan adanya batu-batu tersebut, kapal-kapal besar tidaklah mungkin untuk berlabuh dekat ditepi pantai dikarenakan batu-batu tersebut akan menghancurkan struktur kayu dari kapal. Dizaman penjajahan, pertahanan laut seperti itu sangatlah penting bagi yang bertahan dipulau tersebut.
